Goa is getting busy again. If you are planning a trip for Diwali, Christmas or New Year, the time to plan is now, not next month. Here is what is happening in Goa right now, and how to book a stay without stress.

Is Goa getting busy this season?

For Indian travellers, yes. Agoda data reported this month says searches for Goa for the October and November holiday period are up by nearly 43 percent compared to last year. Dussehra has just passed, Diwali is coming in early November, and many families are planning short breaks.

Beach shacks are reopening too, and most are said to be ready for the season. That is usually a sign that Goa is back in full swing.

What about foreign tourists this year?

It is a bit slower so far. Tour operators say charter bookings from places like Europe and Kazakhstan are coming in late, because the weather there is still warm and people are waiting to decide. The charter season did start on October 1, and more flights are expected in December.

So Goa is not quiet. Foreign bookings may just pick up later. For Indian travellers, I would not wait and hope for empty rooms in late December. That rarely works out.

When is the busiest time to visit Goa?

Christmas and New Year week, in late December. That is when hotel rates go up the most and the good rooms go first. Diwali in early November is the next big rush for family trips.

If you want calmer beaches and fewer people, think about early December or January after the New Year rush.

When should you book your stay?

Earlier than you think. For Diwali, book now. For Christmas and New Year, book as early as you can. Small stays have only a few rooms, and when they are full, they are full. Rates also tend to rise as the dates get closer.

If your dates are fixed, book within a few days. If they are not fixed, pick a stay with free cancellation, so you can book now and change later if needed.

What is new in Goa tourism right now?

Goa is trying to be more than a beach holiday. The state is promoting heritage, wellness, nature and local culture, and a wellness, Ayurveda and yoga policy for 2026 has been announced. Tourism officials are also asking visitors to look at places like Fontainhas, Old Goa, spice plantations, river cruises and hinterland trails.

Flights are improving as well. Goa has two airports, Dabolim and Mopa, and airlines are adding winter services. Akasa Air plans direct flights between Chandigarh and Goa from December.

What does this mean for you? A Goa trip does not have to be only beach days. You can plan a few days of beach, a day for Old Goa, and a day for something different. A base in Calangute works well for that.

Why stay in Calangute for a festive trip?

It is easy and central. At Arooba Residency, Calangute Beach, Baga Beach and Calangute Market are each about a 10 minute walk. You can walk to the beach in the evening and not worry about taxis for every small trip.

The guest house has 10 rooms. Five are Deluxe Rooms with a queen bed for up to 2 guests. Five are Family Rooms with two double beds for up to 4 guests. All rooms have AC, free WiFi and balcony or terrace access. There is a 24 hour front desk and a shared garden and terrace.

If you are driving or renting a bike, parking is free for up to 4 cars and 10 bikes. Pets are allowed too, so your dog can come along.

How much does a room cost in the festive season?

Rooms at Arooba Residency start from around ₹1,200 per room per night in the off season, from April to September. In the peak season, from December to February, rooms start from around ₹5,000. Diwali falls between the two, so ask the team for the exact rate for your dates.

The final price always depends on your dates and what is available. Christmas and New Year dates sit inside the peak window, so check early.

How does direct booking work?

Send your dates and number of guests through the website. The team replies within 15 minutes, checks availability and contacts you to confirm. You pay an advance of 20 to 30 percent. You can pay by UPI, cash, card or bank transfer.

Cancellation is free up to 24 hours before arrival. The rate for direct guests is discussed with the team, and the property says its best rate is on its own website.

What should you keep in mind for a smooth trip?

Carry a valid government photo ID for every adult. Unmarried couples are welcome with a valid ID. Check in is at 12:00 PM and check out is at 11:00 AM. If you want to arrive early or leave late, ask the team in advance, because it depends on availability.

Roads and beaches will be crowded in peak days, so give yourself extra time. Beach shack owners are also asking visitors to respect local culture, follow the law and keep the beaches clean. That is good advice for every trip.

Ready to plan your Goa stay?

If Calangute is on your list, check Arooba Residency and send an enquiry on the website. Tell the team your dates and how many people are travelling. They will reply directly, and you can ask anything you like before you decide.
